It was my very first lingerie themed modelling shoot six years ago when Playful Promises came into my line of sight. Then I found myself wearing the brand when I won the Hepburn and Leigh modelling competition in 2014, and since then I’ve accumulated something of a collection. You could say I have a soft spot for them and you wouldn’t be far wrong.
Me modelling Playful Promises for Hepburn and Leigh
While my most covetable pieces include their corsets and frilly knickers, its not been for the lack of want in the bra department. Playful Promises‘ bralets and longlines are the most desirable and trend responsive designs, but with sizes limited to an F cup, I’d long outsized the range. Recently however, the brand has slowly introduced G cups, this season launching their first official D-G Fuller Bust capsule collection, and by heck, is this one seriously fine busty offering!
Playful Promises Fuller Bust collection reflects the brand’s overhauled, more fiercely-feminine aesthetic. Designs are vintage inspired, sumptuous and, let’s face it, down-right hot.
Sexier, edgier full bust lingerie has been a highly vocal issue, coming to a head this year with brands finally releasing what consumers have been crying out for. And Playful Promises’ new collection has conveniently arrived with a handful of sexy sets in tow. For those hungry for the more provocative, Miranda and Juliet are worth checking out.
For my review of this range I wanted to steer away from the obvious, and move toward the vintage styling I most attribute PP to. So I chose the perfectly pleasing Portia: a luxuriously styled set with retro inspiration.
**I received the Portia Vintage Stitch Teal Bra (32G/£55), with the matching Brief (large/£30) and Suspender Belt (large/£50)**
Lending a look from a glamorous bygone era, cool teal toned Portia’s styling echoes the bullet bra with its vintage lines. The bra itself features three section padded cups, and so the stitching has a fuller profile, but steering away from the retro look, the shape is very rounded with a flattering balconette neckline.
The detailing doesn’t stop at the stitching though; a delicate overlaid lace makes a leading feature to the upper cup of the bra, and ruched straps add a sumptuous touch. Gentle side boning supports the fit, and the band closes on two hooks and eyes.
The bra is a beauty, both in sight and to the touch. It feels opulent to wear; to feel the silky satin and rich texture. It is clearly a fine piece of lingerie and every inch the treat to wear.
In respect of the fit, I’m hugely impressed. The band feels snug and supportive, and the bra on the whole, comfortable. Deep balcony styles in general don’t suit my shape, so I do have the wires slightly away from my chest, but this is solely because my boobs are closely set. I don’t mind wearing bras like this sometimes though, as I find the way the band and straps fit and feel are most important to me.
The brief is a little treat in itself. The stitching this time lies flat on the satin without the raised look from the padding of the bra, and to the back of the brief is a soft sheer mesh. A neat edging of lace trims the edge of the satin and a bow finishes off the centre where two slim elasticated bands form the sides of the knickers. This is an especially daring design that feels entirely naughty and looks so sensual.
The suspender belt really ties up the set with old school styling. The belt is a deep, tummy hugging shape and features four wide retro inspired suspender clips for attaching those all important stockings. Again like the brief, the vintage stitching detail is flat (you would most definitely not want padded bulk here) and there’s some gorgeous eyelash lace trimming the front panel, which is a really delicate, pretty touch.
Personally, I think the Portia set epitomises Playful Promises. They’ve always represented the modern pin up look to me, and it’s this exotic tendency that makes me adore – and keep coming back to – the brand so much.
This is my faux fur stole pictured here – I don’t entertain any form of real fur, vintage or otherwise 🙂
