Pretty in Pink: Freya Fifi

February 23, 2015

One of the best things about February is the promise of impending Spring, and with that hope comes forth an array of lighter, prettier lingerie collections.

Freya launched a capsule of delicate feminine lingerie in time for mid-month Valentine’s Day, and I was offered to pick from the new sets including Fifi, Deco Charm and Siren.  Having brought Deco Darling and, similar to Siren, Ooh La La, recently to the blog, I decided to opt for something a little different this time around.

Fifi is a collection that boasts three varieties of bra style; longline, balcony and half cup, with the choice of an accompanying brief or short.  With the longline running to a G and the half cup sitting midway at an H, the balcony style is the most widely accessible as it fits up to a K cup.  The half cup and balcony also both start at a 28 band, while the longline begins from a 30.

I most often wear Freya in a balcony style, so it was great to this time try out a half cup which compared to the balcony comes lightly padded.  Freya sent me the half cup bra in a 30GG and short in medium.

Fifi is a truly innocent, girly collection.  The design features a soft black floral print against a baby pink colour base, with contrasting grosgrain ribbon bows.  The half cup has a two hook wide band, but it’s a decent width and not narrow.  The fabric is soft and slinky to the touch (like last season’s Pansy) and the cups are lightly padded.  The fully elasticated straps feel soft too, so the whole bra is comfortable and easy to wear.

When I first saw this collection I assumed the design was a mixture of embroidery and fabric like the Deco Darling, but it actually isn’t.  The pattern is a clever stylised print that depicts funky floral heads against a mesh-like backdrop.  The result is an intriguing design with depth but a smooth and sleek microfibre texture – in effect, the perfect t-shirt bra.

I quite like it when Freya designs using these soft fabrication straps as they’re by far the comfiest for my shoulders.  In terms of doing the best job, I do prefer the more textured straps Deco typically has.  The soft straps seem to have more stretch so I do find I need to adjust them slightly tighter, but this doesn’t detract from how comfy the bra feels overall.  It’s nice not to have irritating rough straps!

A long day’s wear has actually been pleasurable and pretty much unexciting – which is good when it comes to bras!  I’ve felt supported by the band and not felt a wince from the straps.  The bra cups have stayed in place and worn well under my clothing.  I love how the half cup fits and actually suits me better than many balcony bras I’ve tried.  In fact I’m pretty certain Fifi has converted me to a new half cup bra fan.
